Guest Check-in
The guest check-in experience
This page describes what a guest does when they check in to their stay through the Centro app. Staff who set stays up should also read Managing stays and stay types.
Online check-in lets guests confirm their details and identity before or on arrival, so their room key and access are ready when they get there.
Opening a stay
A guest reaches their stay through the entry link their host sends them — a private link tied to a single stay. Opening it signs the guest straight in to that stay in the Centro app, with no password to remember, and takes them to the home screen set by their stay type.
Guests who already have the Centro app also see their bookings under the Bookings area, split into their current stay and upcoming stays. See Stays UI elements.
If check-in hasn't been completed yet, the guest is prompted to finish it before continuing into their location's home screen.
The check-in steps
Check-in is a short guided flow. The guest works through it one step at a time:
1. Introduction
A quick overview of what check-in involves — taking a photo of an identity document, checking their details, and (where applicable) adding their room key.
2. Consent
The guest agrees to the terms of use and the privacy policy. Both must be accepted to continue.
3. Identity document
The guest provides a photo of a passport, driving licence, or ID card — either by taking a photo with their device camera or uploading an image. Centro reads the document to pre-fill as much of the next step as it can.
4. Your details
The guest confirms and completes their details: document type and number, first and last name, email, date of birth, and the document's issue and expiry dates. Fields are pre-filled from the document photo where possible, and the guest corrects anything that's wrong.
The guest's email is collected here because it's used to set up their mobile wallet room key. See Flexipass Wallet Keys.
5. Summary
Check-in is complete. If the stay is eligible for a mobile room key, the guest sees a Get FlexiPass option here to add their key to their phone's wallet.
After check-in
Once check-in is complete:
- The stay is marked as checked in, and the guest's room key and access are provisioned.
- The guest can reach their wallet room key again at any time during the stay from their stay details — see The guest experience.
- Front-desk staff can see the stay is checked in and can review the guest's identity document.
