Languages

The processor can show Centro System Manager for Crestron, and the User App a location's QR code opens, in English (UK), Spanish (US), French or Italian. You choose the language for the whole processor, then for a location, then for a group of staff. Each person can still pick their own.

A processor that has been upgraded stays in English until you choose a default language. Nothing changes for anyone until then.

Where to set it

There are three places. Each is the fallback for the one below it. General, Locations and Administrators cover each setting in full.

WhatWhereWho it's for
Default languageSettings → Settings → General, under LanguageEveryone who hasn't been given a language of their own. The sign-in page uses it too.
A location's languageSettings → System → Locations, open the location, LanguageThe users of that location, and the touch screen in it.
A group's languageSettings → Access → Administrators, the Language column against the groupThe people signed in through that group of the Crestron processor.

Leave a location or a group on Default, shown with the current default language in brackets, to use the processor's default language.

Only Administrators change these

Settings is for Administrators. A Manager or a user changes only the language they see, as described below.

Set the default language

  1. Go to Settings → Settings → General.
  2. Under Language, choose the Default language.
  3. Select Save.

Set a location's language

  1. Go to Settings → System → Locations and open the location.
  2. Choose its Language. Leave it on Default to follow the processor.
  3. Save the location.

Set a group's language

  1. Go to Settings → Access → Administrators.
  2. Against each group, choose a Language in the language column.
  3. Save.
A person in two groups

If someone is in two groups of the same type and the groups have different languages, they get the processor's default language. A group with no language set is ignored.

A person gets their group's language when they sign in. If you change a group's language, people already signed in see the change the next time they sign in.

How a person switches

Staff. Open the language menu in the top bar, or on the sign-in page, and choose a language. Each language is written in itself, so you can find yours when the page is in a language you can't read. The choice is saved on that device and survives a reload. It needs no sign-out.

Once a person has chosen, the menu also has Follow my group, or Use the processor's default on the sign-in page. Choose it to forget the saved choice.

Users. A user who opens a location's QR code on their phone sees the User App in the location's language. A row of languages under the page header lets them choose another. The phone keeps the choice for next time.

Touch screens. A touch screen follows the language of its location. It has no switch and doesn't keep a choice, because the screen is shared and a choice left on it would be the next user's.

Which language wins

For staff, the first of these that applies:

  1. The language the person chose on that device.
  2. The language of their group.
  3. The processor's default language.
  4. English.

For a user, the same order with the location's language in place of the group's.

What stays in English

These stay in English whatever language is chosen:

  • Settings, with the licence, backup, upgrade and logs pages.
  • Set-up and commissioning, and the connection and touch screen set-up pages.
  • The Settings menu entry, the breadcrumbs on those pages and the licence and set-up banners.
  • The wording of notification messages, and alerts written by a connection. The titles of the processor's own alerts are translated.

Those pages are for installers and support. Keeping them in English means a step in the documentation, or one read out over the phone, matches what is on the screen.

Product names stay as they are in every language, such as Centro System Manager for Crestron and Crestron Home.

Wording that looks wrong

The translations are first made by a translation service, and a native speaker of each language reads them before they ship. If a word or phrase doesn't read right, tell Centro support which page it's on. A wording fix reaches your processor with the next software release, because the languages are part of the software.

Troubleshooting

What you seeWhat to check
Everything is still in EnglishNo default language is set, and no group or location has one. See Set the default language.
A person sees the wrong languageThey may have chosen a language on that device. Ask them to open the language menu and choose Follow my group or Use the processor's default.
A Manager sees Settings in EnglishSettings is always English. See What stays in English.
A user sees English although the location has a languageThe user may have chosen English on their phone. A touch screen shows the location's language, whatever phone is used.
A group's language has no effectThe person may be in two groups of the same type with different languages, so the default applies.
